A customer in the motorcycle industry asked us to provide a Cost-effective solution for sourcing a clear polycarbonate guard to protect the belt drive mechanisms on one of their models. Since the part was 100% visible, requirements dictated that it be window-clear and as a protective device it had to be extremely durable as well as shatter-, UV-, and weather-resistant.
Extremely tight controls over the thermoforming process enabled us to meet dimensional tolerances of ± .010” while preserving the strength and resistance properties of polycarbonate. In-process and final inspections included clarity checks, materials analysis, and dimensional gauging.
It was critical that this belt shroud, with dimensions of 9” x 21”x 5”, be manufactured according to the engineered specifications to meet critical operating and safety regulations. Even a small imperfection could compromise these requirements. Our capability for manufacturing zero-defect parts on schedule and within a reasonable cost framework enabled us to complete this job successfully.
